Overview
Cost splitting allows a single membership registration to be divided between a National Sport Organization (NSO) and a Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO). When a member registers, the total cost is automatically split between the two organizations based on a preconfigured ratio — and each organization receives its portion directly.
Once configured, cost splitting is handled automatically at checkout. No manual intervention is required from the member or the PTSO administrator during the purchase flow.
Cost splitting is an optional feature on our NGO Membership Product.
What the Member Sees
At Checkout
When cost splitting is active, the member's transaction cart will display the split as separate line items — one for the NSO portion and one for the PTSO portion. Both appear within the same checkout flow.
On the Receipt
The final receipt emailed to the member will show both the NSO and PTSO portions as distinct orders, each with their own order number, line items, and subtotals. The receipt summary at the bottom reflects the combined total charged to the member.

On the Credit Card Statement
The member will see two separate line items on their credit card statement — one for each organization's portion of the membership.
Processing Refunds on Cost-Split Memberships
When a PTSO needs to process a refund for a cost-split membership, follow these steps:
Order details page — the Refund button on the transaction row processes the PTSO portion only.
Important: The PTSO can only refund its own portion of the membership. The NSO must process its own refund separately. Always cc the NSO membership team so the member isn't left waiting.
Optional: Separate NSO Email at Registration
If desired, the NSO can configure a separate confirmation email that is sent to the member at the time of registration. This email is independent of the standard receipt and can be used to share additional information, such as:
- Subscribing to the NSO newsletter
- Accessing member benefits through partner integrations (e.g., the Twirling Umbrellas API)
- Links to NSO resources and programs
