Cheval Québec: manage horses

Manage horses with Cheval Québec on HorseReg: register a horse online or from the Admin Dashboard, find it in the horse directory and transfer its ownership.

1. Open the horse registration page

   Sign in to HorseReg and go to the online horse registration page. The page lists the horses already registered under your account.

   

2. Choose whose horse it is

   To register a horse on your own account, select Add a new horse at the bottom of the page. To register one for another person, search for their profile in the admin transaction section, select it, then select Add a new horse.

3. Name the horse

   Enter the horse’s name. Then say whether the horse is registered with a breed registry. If it is, choose the registry from the list set by Cheval Québec.

4. Add the associated people

   Choose the person to associate with the horse. Pick a profile under your account on the left, or search HorseReg for another person on the right. If nobody matches, you can create a new profile.

5. Give each person a role

   Owner is mandatory. For shared ownership, enter each owner’s percentage and choose the primary owner. Rider/driver is optional. Responsible person is optional; if you leave it empty, the primary owner becomes the responsible person.

6. Add the horse’s details

   Choose the breed from Cheval Québec’s list, the sex and the date of birth; these are mandatory. You can also add the Equestrian Canada number, the breeder’s name, the registration number, a Coggins test certificate, a registration certificate, a vaccination certificate and a photo.

7. Add it to the cart

   Select Add to cart and complete the checkout. You and Cheval Québec each get a notification. Cheval Québec checks the information and approves the horse.

Register a horse from the Admin Dashboard

Cheval Québec admins can register a horse by hand.

1. Start a new horse

   On the Admin Dashboard, open the horses list from the left menu and choose to register a horse.

2. Fill in the registration

   Select the national registrar and enter the horse’s name. Set the status to active if the horse should appear in the directory. Leave the box that says the horse has no existing Universal Equine Life Number (UELN) ticked.

3. Choose the registry and breed

   Select the breed registry, or the option for horses without registration. Then select the breed, or the option without registration. The breed sets the breed code in the horse’s HorseReg number and registration number.

4. Add the dates and documents

   Select the sex, add the date of birth and, if they apply, the retirement and death dates. Add any documents for the horse, then validate the changes to create the profile.

5. Add the activation

   Open the new horse profile, go to the Activation tab and add an activation: type Cheval Québec, valid from today, valid until 2100-01-01.

6. Approve the horse

   Approve the horse profile. Once it’s approved, the horse appears in the directory.

If you skip the activation, the system changes the horse’s status to expired automatically.

Find a horse in the directory

Every horse with an active status on HorseReg is in the Cheval Québec horse directory. Search by the horse’s name or its registration number.

Transfer ownership
