Map out your certification pathways in Uplifter's Configuration Workbook, then build the levels and attach a course type to each registration category so every registrant gets a course record and earns their credential.
- It starts with your pathway on paper. You describe the structure and policies of your certification pathways in Uplifter’s Configuration Workbook, and Uplifter builds your course types from it. To change a course type later, contact Uplifter Support.
- Three building blocks: a course type is one course, such as a first aid module. A level is the credential a person earns, such as Coach Level 1. A course record is one person’s result in one course.
- Each course type completes one way: automatically (at checkout or on the event end date), when attendance is marked, or when an evaluation is passed. It can’t use both attendance and evaluation.
- Education Management is switched on once by Uplifter. After that, every Event Dashboard shows Education Management in its Configuration tab.
- Completion isn’t instant. Records and levels are checked about every six hours. Attendance marked as Attended completes right away.
Set up certification course types and levels in three moves: describe your pathways in the Configuration Workbook, build the levels people earn, then attach a course type to each registration category so every registrant gets a course record.
-
Map your pathways in the Configuration Workbook
Your Uplifter contact sends you the workbook. Fill it in (see what it asks below), and Uplifter loads your course types under Certifications → Education Management.
-
Open Education Management
On the Admin Dashboard, select Certifications → Education Management.
-
Add a level
Add a new certification level. Give it a name, the credential (attribute) people receive when they complete it, and the organization it belongs to.
-
Pick the courses and the rule
Select the course types that count toward the level. Choose All courses in this requirement group are required when every course is needed, or At least one course in the group is required when any one will do. Move them into the requirement group and save.
-
Open your Event Dashboard
Select Events → Events, then the gear icon or status button on the event’s row. Open the Configuration tab and select Education Management.
-
Attach a course type to each category
Select Edit on a registration category and choose its Course Type. Repeat for every category that runs a course. One course type can sit on several categories.
-
Add the course staff
If the course needs a facilitator, an evaluator or an attendance recorder, choose a person for each role and save. Only people who meet the course type’s requirements for that role are listed.
Example: a two-course coaching level
Say Coach Level 1 needs a classroom course and an on-field evaluation. Your workbook lists both course types: the classroom course completes on the event end date, and the on-field course completes when an evaluator marks a pass. In Education Management, you build Coach Level 1 with both courses and All courses in this requirement group are required. Once a coach has both records complete, they get the Coach Level 1 credential, which can unlock a coaching membership or the next course in the pathway.
What goes in the Configuration Workbook
Think of it as your pathway’s rulebook. Your Uplifter contact can go through it with you before it’s loaded.
- Course type groups: who can run courses with these course types, and who can import course records for them.
- Course staff roles: facilitator, evaluator or attendance recorder, and any credential a person needs to take that role.
- Course types: the name, how each one completes (automatically, attendance or evaluation), the credits each role earns, and whether its records come from another system (with its ID there, such as a National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) number). A course type with imported records can’t also use evaluation or attendance.
- Evaluation form: optional questions for evaluators beyond pass or fail.
How records turn into credentials
Everyone who registers in a category with a course type gets a course record on their profile, including people you register yourself (see Register someone on their behalf with an admin transaction). The record shows the course, the event, the completion date, the result and any credits. When a record completes, its credits are granted. When someone has completed everything a level needs, they receive its credential. Facilitators, evaluators and attendance recorders can earn credits too.
A level grants its credential to everyone who qualifies, so check the courses and the rule before you save. If a level was set up wrong, don’t delete it: change its course types, or contact Uplifter Support. Once credits are granted for an event, its facilitators and evaluators can’t be changed from the dashboard; contact Uplifter Support to correct them.
To record who attended or passed, see Record course attendance and evaluations.
