Create a Try Speed Skating event for an open house, festival or school event: build it with the event creation wizard under your club's or PTSO's Try Speed Skating organization, test it and submit it for review.
- Try Speed Skating is an event membership for one special event, such as an open house, festival or school event. It’s charged for each special event a person joins, and a special event lasts two days at most.
- Speed Skating Canada’s Try Speed Skating membership costs $0.00, and Speed Skating Canada covers the processing fees. Your provincial or territorial sport organization (PTSO) may charge its own fee; ask your PTSO.
- Choose the Try Speed Skating organization when you create the event: the one named after your club or PTSO, followed by "- Try Speed Skating".
- How registrants pay depends on your club’s registration pathway. Pathways 1 and 2 take card payments automatically. Pathways 3 and 4 need a payment group, which Uplifter sets up.
- Screenshots may show an earlier version of the screens. The steps describe the current screens.
Create a Try Speed Skating event for a one-off special event, using the event creation wizard and your club’s or PTSO’s Try Speed Skating organization.
-
Open the wizard
On the Admin Dashboard, select Events → Events, then Create event at the top of the page. The wizard opens in a new tab.
-
Choose the Try Speed Skating organization
Under Reuse an existing financial organization, choose the organization named after your club or PTSO, followed by "- Try Speed Skating". If it isn’t there, contact Uplifter Support.
-
Add the listing details
Under Listing Details, enter the event name, the start and end dates, the address, and the email and phone number registrants can contact. With no exact address, such as a park or a lake, use the closest city or landmark. Choose a Classification so the event shows in the right place in the directory. Social media links are optional.
-
Set up registration
Under Registration set-up, set the dates registration opens and closes. For who pays the processing fees, you can choose User: Speed Skating Canada covers them. Add your currency and any taxes.
-
Add the Try Speed Skating category
Under Registration Categories, add a category named Try Speed Skating. For the price, enter your club’s event price only. The price name fills in on its own. You need at least one category to finish.
-
Add questions and waivers
In Registration Fields, choose the profile details to collect and add any custom forms. In Agreements and Waivers, add anything registrants must sign. Registrants also sign the Speed Skating Canada and PTSO membership waivers.
-
Continue to the dashboard
Select Continue to Dashboard. Finish any other setup on the Event Dashboard’s Configuration tab.
What registrants pay
At checkout, registrants see a summary of what they owe to Speed Skating Canada, the PTSO and your club. The Speed Skating Canada line is $0.00. The PTSO line is the PTSO’s own Try Speed Skating fee, if it charges one.
How payment works for your club
- Registration pathway 1 or 2: card payments are set up on your Try Speed Skating events automatically.
- Registration pathway 3 or 4: contact Uplifter Support and ask for a payment group for your Try Speed Skating events. If your PTSO charges a Try Speed Skating fee, your club gets two payment groups: one for what’s owed to the PTSO, one for what’s owed to your club. If the PTSO fee is $0.00, your club gets one payment group, for what’s owed to your club.
Test and submit
Run test registrations before you open registration to the public; see Test your registration before going live. When you’re happy with the event, submit it for review. Uplifter contacts you within two to five business days. The list of registrants is in the Event Dashboard’s Registrations tab.
For the review and go-live steps, see Submit your Event Dashboard for review and go live.
