How the processing fee on a registration is worked out from your contract rate and sales tax, with a worked example.
Must know
- Your processing fee rate is set in your contract with Uplifter. The example below uses 5% plus $0.75 per registration.
- The fee is worked out on the subtotal plus its tax, and the fee is taxed too.
- Each event or club sets who pays the fee: the registrant, or your organization.
How the processing fee on a registration is worked out, and how to read it on a receipt.
How the fee is calculated
- Tax on the subtotal. Your sales tax is applied to the registration price.
- The fee. Your contract rate is applied to the subtotal plus that tax, and the per-registration amount is added.
- Tax on the fee. Sales tax is applied to the fee itself.
A worked example
A $270 registration with 13% sales tax and a rate of 5% plus $0.75:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Subtotal | $270.00 |
| Tax on the subtotal ($270.00 × 13%) | $35.10 |
| Processing fee ($305.10 × 5% + $0.75) | $16.01 |
| Tax on the fee ($16.01 × 13%) | $2.08 |
| Total tax ($35.10 + $2.08) | $37.18 |
| Total paid | $323.19 |
Who pays it
- The registrant — the fee is added to the cart on top of the registration price.
- Your organization — the fee comes off your payout before it reaches your bank account.
An admin fee is different: it’s one you add yourself, and it shows on reports separately from the processing fee. Keep the two apart when you reconcile.
