The payment processors Uplifter offers, what every merchant application asks for, and where to start your Paysafe, Stripe or Adyen setup.
- Uplifter works with several payment processors. Which ones you can use depends on your Uplifter platform and your client contract, so check with your Onboarding Specialist before you apply.
- The applicant must be an authorized representative of your organization, not a volunteer.
- Your business legal name and your bank account name must match exactly. A mismatch is the most common cause of delayed deposits.
- Uplifter no longer supports WePay or Worldline (formerly Bambora and Beanstream). The table below has the dates.
Online registration and membership fees reach your bank through a merchant account with a payment processor, which you apply for from inside Uplifter.
Payment processors Uplifter offers
| Processor | Where it's offered | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| Paysafe | Enterprise Portal, for club, event and association admins | Set up a Paysafe merchant account |
| Stripe | Enterprise Portal sites, as a payout option under Financials and Accounting | Set up your Stripe merchant account |
| Adyen | Club 1.0, for Canadian and American clubs | Set up Adyen for payments |
Some sport organizations name a recommended processor in their own platform guide. When yours does, follow it.
Processors Uplifter used to support
| Processor | Earlier names | Supported until |
|---|---|---|
| WePay | None | June 2024, when WePay was discontinued |
| Worldline | Bambora, and before that Beanstream | October 1, 2024 |
Beanstream and Bambora are earlier names for Worldline, not separate processors, so all three stopped with Worldline. When an older article mentions one of them, read it as your merchant account with your current processor.
What every application asks for
- Your organization's legal details: legal name exactly as it appears on your bank statements, address, and business or tax ID (a 9-digit Business Number in Canada, an EIN in the US).
- The people behind it: directors, anyone who owns 25% or more, and the person who directs the organization, each with their own legal name, date of birth and home address. Get their consent before you enter it.
- Your bank details for deposits, often with a void cheque or bank letter in the same name.
- A statement descriptor: the name your customers see on their card statement.
Canadian merchants also upload identity and business documents; Paysafe lists them by organization type in Documents Paysafe asks Canadian merchants for.
Good practice
- Apply early. Set up your merchant account alongside the rest of your Uplifter setup, and finish before you open live registrations.
- Use an inbox someone checks. Processors send every follow-up to the email you apply with.
- Reply quickly. A Paysafe application is withdrawn after 30 days with no reply; any answer keeps it open.
- Test before you go live when your processor offers a test mode.
