Overview
Direct affiliation payments let a single membership registration pay both a National Sport Organization (NSO) and a Provincial/Territorial Sport Organization (PTSO). When a member checks out, two transactions are made at the same time, one for each organization's portion, and each portion goes straight into that organization's own merchant account. Nothing is collected by one organization and paid out to the other later.
Once configured, direct affiliation payments are handled automatically at checkout. No manual intervention is required from the member or the PTSO administrator during the purchase flow.
Direct affiliation payments are an optional feature on our NGO Membership Product.
What the Member Sees
At Checkout
When direct affiliation payments are active, the member's transaction cart shows each organization's portion as a separate line item — one for the NSO and one for the PTSO. Both appear within the same checkout flow.
On the Receipt
The final receipt emailed to the member will show both the NSO and PTSO portions as distinct orders, each with their own order number, line items, and subtotals. The receipt summary at the bottom reflects the combined total charged to the member.

On the Credit Card Statement
The member will see two separate line items on their credit card statement — one for each organization's portion of the membership.
Processing Refunds with Direct Affiliation Payments
When a PTSO needs to refund a membership paid with direct affiliation payments, follow these steps:
Order details page — the Refund button on the transaction row processes the PTSO portion only.
Important: The PTSO can only refund its own portion of the membership. The NSO must process its own refund separately. Always cc the NSO membership team so the member isn't left waiting.
Optional: Separate NSO Email at Registration
If desired, the NSO can configure a separate confirmation email that is sent to the member at the time of registration. This email is independent of the standard receipt and can be used to share additional information, such as:
- Subscribing to the NSO newsletter
- Accessing member benefits through partner integrations (e.g., the Twirling Umbrellas API)
- Links to NSO resources and programs
This is an optional configuration — speak to your Uplifter implementation contact if the NSO would like to enable this.
